Set against the austere landscape of the Australian bushland, overlapping images of ever increasing clarity inform Grace’s consciousness as she moves toward the end of her life. Proof of her existence through the many experiences, take on a personal symbology; these include kittens, stolen houses, car rides, cockatoos and horses across multiple moments and immersive environments.
Kathy Smith is an Australian artist who has been working with painting, animation installation and sound since 1982. Smith is a tenured Professor at the John C Hench Division of Animation and Digital Arts at the School of Cinematic Arts, University of Southern California she chaired and built the division from 2004-2009 and 2010-2014. Since 1984 her films have been screened internationally, including SIGGRAPH 2001, Sundance 2002, Hiroshima, Anima Mundi and Ottawa International Animation Festivals and she has exhibited internationally at group and solo exhibitions such as Institute for Contemporary Art London, Florence Palazzo Italy, the Australian National Gallery Canberra and most recently at Tamarind Art Gallery New York City.
