When single-mother Maggie loses her son in a biking accident, she retreats into a make-belief world in which he is still alive. But when her daughter threatens to crush this world, Maggie will do anything to save it. Director Veerle Ackerstaff will attend the screening.
Veerle Ackerstaff (also known as VV AKU) has always believed in the power of stories. As a toddler she used to sit in front of an old record player for hours on end and listen to fairytales. When she was 4, she taught herself how to write and has been writing ever since. On her 18th she left for China and ended up staying there for almost a decade. On the border of Tibet, at the foot of the Himalayan Mountains and surrounded by mysterious tribes and shamans, she wrote her first young adult novel: The Fire of Dawn – a scintillating tale about strength, self-discovery and a girl brave enough to follow her dreams. Veerle also worked as a columnist for a renowned Dutch magazine. Her 2nd novel: The Dharma Prophecy, will soon be released in the UK. Veerle holds a postgraduate degree from the University of Cambridge in English Language Teaching to Adults and an MA in Professional Writing (Distinction). She is currently writing several screenplays and has recently graduated as a film director from the Amsterdam Film School. BLURRED is her graduation film.
